I remember liking this when it came out, and having re watched the entire NOES franchise I don't like it any less now. Even worse case scenario there's no way this film could disrespect the franchise. And this isn't worst case territory. There's perhaps the best lead in the series (Undeclared's Monica Keena, who should be a massive star but somehow isn't) and a solid supporting cast (including the Fletcher dude from the Rampage movies that I really like). And it plays like the second film of a strong double by introducing characters in a way that feels like they've already had a movie's worth of adventures (eg the two dudes stuck in the asylum). Even though I JUST watched the other NOES movies, I paused about 20 minutes in and did a Wiki check to make sure I wasn't forgetting these characters from an earlier film. Plus this was a good a way as any to get these two characters into the same universe. The final battle was what it was. I remember people complaining it was too wwf-ish. And I guess it was. But it also makes sense that Freddy dominates Jason in the dream world, then has to fight tooth and nail in the real world. Even in the real world though he mostly dominates, which I guess is a bummer if you're a big Jason guy. It looks like this was the last film in either franchise pre-reboot, and if that ultimately ends up being the case it's a good enough finisher. Ideally Englund and Jason (played by whoever, I really don't care) would each sign on to a sequel a year, with every film to be directed by a newish FF alum for a modest budget. Like, I'd love to see the Almost Human dudes do their take on one of these franchises. But that's not going to happen and we're just going to have to live in a post-reboot dull world and fuck everything.

:: Wrapping up my NOES dive-in with FREDDY VS JASON. And this terrible DVD.
:: This DVD is SO. OLD.
:: Whoa. Didn’t realize the dude I liked from the RAMPAGE flicks is a lead in F VS J.
:: Rounding out my Freddy look-back with the ep of FREDDY’S NIGHTMARES where we prequel see him get off on the kid murder raps.
:: It’s directed by Tobe Hooper and the on-trial Freddy is stuck in a see-through box.
:: Prosecutor: “This unholy aberration…” Defense: “Objection!” Prosecutor: “Exuse me. *Alleged* unholy aberration.”
:: That’s the box they’ve got Freddy in during the trial. I’m willing to release him on grounds of undue jury prejudice.
:: For you Freddy completists, this is the judge who let Freddy go b/c he wasn’t read his rights on arrest. Honestly!
:: Hahaha. This is the super underwhelming formation of the mob that killed Freddy.
:: Here's the excuse of the cop who screwed up Freddy's arrest, setting in motion hundreds of deaths.
