02.24.10Home DVD After Dance Or Die we had several options, but when I mentioned that this was a late-80's CIA middle-east actioner featuring Agents Angel, Kiki, and Kelly, the decision was made.

One of the film's stars - Bo Gritz, playing Lt. Col. Steel here - claims to be the inspiration for the character of Rambo. But after I did some digging, I found an article where the author of the Rambo books flatly denies that it was based on Gritz or anyone else. I don't know what the actual story is, but in any event, someone involved with this movie was able to get their hands on a shitload of weapons and explosive ordnance. There's a long scene where Gritz lovingly explains the features of various guns, and then the last half of the movie is a gigantic fight sequence in the desert where *everything* gets blown up. Over and over and over. We forgot who was fighting who. During the credits, the various weapons used in the film got their own listings, complete with the name of the manufacturer and/or supplier. Someone obviously had a weapons fetish.

From a non-explosion standpoint, things were pretty bad (though in a mostly enjoyable way). The scene transitions were abrupt and made little sense. There were way too many characters, and it was hard to tell who was who. In particular, I'm convinced that there were different characters playing Stiker (who doesn't even have an IMDB entry), because he looked every time we saw him.

Also, almost every dialog scene in the movie features either (a) the actor literally reading his lines from a pad of paper setting on his desk, or (b) the actor covering his mouth with a walkie talkie or phone so that they could just dub the lines in afterward. It was stunning how transparent they were with the fact that nobody in the film knew their lines.

In all, it was a successful double feature. The unexpected tie between the two films was that both were filmed in or around Vegas.
