| 08.28.09 | Home DVD | Wow... this movie starts off really slow, but it ended up being one of my favorite Brian Trenchard-Smith movies. The basic plot is that a supernatural (alien?) force is killing humans and ripping their eyeballs out. (The whole thing is set in Australia... not that that matters to the plot). There's a main dude who somehow has a psychic connection with the out-of-world being. But it eventually takes him over, and the last 20 or so minutes of the film... damn horrifying. Honestly. I saw at least one website that I respect dismiss this movie as trash, but the last third of this movie really freaked me out. Here's my tweets from the film: :: Time for more overlooked Brian Trenchard-Smith goodness with OUT OF THE BODY (1989) http://twitpic.com/fnv1d :: The Brian Trenchard-Smith seal of approval. #outofthebody http://twitpic.com/fnvay :: GuyCop slurps GirlCop's face. Girl: I'll have you on harassment! Guy:I was just trying to illustrate the horror of the eye-plucking maniac! :: Wasn't sure at first, but yup... this is our protag. #outofthebody http://twitpic.com/fnyg8 :: Protag is not happy. #outofthebody http://twitpic.com/fnzwa :: Striking imagery from Brian Trenchard-Smith. #outofthebody http://twitpic.com/fo0xa :: Was getting sleepy. That woke me up and ensured nightmares. #outofthebody http://twitpic.com/fo7fa Man... those last-sequence black-eyeball moments... truly frightening. Track this one down. A lost BTS classic. |
